Things were fine on the way back to Kirkwall. [ There was some posturing, but that's par for the course with Sarah. ] Then she contacted me via crystal and tried to guilt me about my family.

Wait, what actually happened?

I was asking what people miss about home. Like food and shit like that, nothing deep. Herian showed up acting like she knows me, asking me if I miss my family.

That... seems like an understandable misinterpretation of your question, considering you share a face with her girlfriend?

What does that have to do with anything?

Of course she's going to be thinking about family with you, she's thinking about you as my family. Yeah, maybe she misstepped, but that's the context she has for you. You're a stranger to her, sure, but I'm not.

She said "What of family," and then when I figured out who she was, she said she'd wondered if I brought up other stuff because I wasn't sure how to bring up my family.

Do you want me to talk to her? I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it, she's not always the, um. Gentlest person.

[Herian is gentle with Cosima, but Cosima is also aware of Herian's reputation more broadly.]

How long have you been together, anyway? [ Because once (if?) Cosima catches up to her, they'll have broken up, but as far as Cosima's concerned she's still with Delphine at home, right? ]

It depends on how you count, probably -- we met about two years ago, and she got assigned on a long mission away from Skyhold. She came back just under a year ago, and we got together pretty soon after.

[It sounds like she's smiling a little.]

I think we both felt something before she left, but like... there was no guarantee I'd still be here when she got back, or that she'd come through the mission in one piece. I think we were both pleasantly surprised we got a second chance.

No offense, but what about Delphine?

[ Not that she really gives a shit about Delphine's feelings, but with Sarah, Helena, and Cosima all coming from different points in time, if she showed up, things could get awkward fast. ]

[Which isn't the entirety of her answer, but it is the first thing that spring out of her mouth. Even if Sarah doesn't like Herian, Cosima was not prepared for "But you DYAD monitor" to be her first line of argument against it.]
