I'm tryin' to put together a proposal to get Research and Forces to give me funding and permission to get into some medical research. Figure out some better surgery stuff - anaesthesia, and all that. First off I gotta get them to understand what anaesthesia is, but if I can get the ball rolling, would you be in?

Sure. I think that's a good idea -- there are only so many magical healers to go around.

I mean, I'm not actually a medical doctor, but I'll help as much as I can? I've been making some basic progress with hand-washing and germ theory.

And I, personally, would rather understand what's bein' done to my body with more detail than, "idk, my bff magic."

I heard that you got a good understanding of science and biology shit from the grapevine, so even if you ain't a medical doctor, insights would be good. More hands, less work, different ideas, all that good stuff. And also maybe you can stop me from going full mad scientist, if necessary. I saw bezoars for sale the other day. Honest to hopscotching Christ bezoars.

Yeah, there's a weird line between "stuff that sounds fake but works" and "stuff that sounds fake and is fake," and it's not always easy to guess which is which. I'm friends with a few of the mages who do serious healing, and we've talked a little bit about how Thedas handles non-magic medicine. It seems like a lot of the basics are less advanced but work the way I'd expect them to. Or not, sometimes.

"A lot of the basics are less advanced" seems like a pretty broad summary of Thedas generally, to be honest. Bloody sensitive about it, too.

Hey, well. I think our doctors would be mad if people from, like, spacefaring-level societies turned up and were horrified by chemotherapy or something. Right? People are doing their best.

That said, their best could be way more sanitary and I'm really hoping I never need any kind of surgery.
