Yeah, she's... I think they call it spirit magic or spirit healing? It's... crazy effective. I mean they can't do everything, but I got hurt one time and she had me walking like nothing happened like that.

I know it's a lot. I'm from a world with magic and it's still pretty wild just falling in here and all the different rules-- yikes. But definitely systematic nerd stuff. Could be a dangerous method eventually, but that's eventually.

Should I ask?

( science man, scary as magic for sure )

I think it depends? There was this fever a while ago that was pretty brutal, and magic could help sooth it but not heal it, because the cause was this magical artifact in the water supply? I mean it was also an on-going issue, but it's not lile waving a wand and zap you're fixed. Probably there's stuff where she'd tell you to suck it up because it's the manflu, but bigger things or whatever might be a case by case on what she can do.

( A huff of laughter, apologetic. ) I'm about as useful as Web MD for this, I'm sorry.

Gotta love WebMD and all it's optimism, huh? Is looking at your own bloodwork ethical, technically?

( She has no idea how that works. Whatever.

Annnnnd that'd be a drawn out pause. )

That would depend on some factors. ( "factors" sounds oddly strained. ) And I'd need to tell you something on top of magic being real which might be sort of a stretch for you?

No, it's-- it's not an overstep. I mean, it's just that it's weird and I'm kind of juggling the lingering fear of, you know. Either being considered insane or locked up and turned into a science experiment. Not by you personally! I mean I don't think that you would because you're a scientist, it's just that... Sometimes people come along and want to destroy everything. Because we're... I mean the town I'm from is like a magical bubble in a world otherwise with no magic?

( A slow exhale. )

So, when I say "fairy tale" to you, what comes to mind?

Okay.

( ooooookkkaaaayyyyy. Inhale. Exhale. )

She's not French, but she really hates the Cinderella thing. Ella and Snow and I sometimes get drinks together, when we have the chance, except there was a time when they went by Ashley and Mary Margaret because of a spell that kind of erased our memories. I don't know Hansel and Gretel personally, but I think they were in Mary Margaret's class that she taught.

The whole good and bad thing is pretty complicated, though.

We're all from another realm. A Dark Curse sent us to the world without magic and took our memories and basically has us living Groundhog's Day style for twenty-eight years. Taking away all the happy endings, that kinda schtick.

Are you... I mean, it's a lot process.

( quietly: ) Holy crap.

( she's silent for a moment, just trying to grasp that. )

Wow. That must be...

Wow. Yeah. Remembering I was Red Riding Hood was a process. ( a pause. ) Are you okay? Cloning, that... that's not exactly a small thing to get your head around.

So you need to get back.

( Softly, maybe a shade guiltily. Ruby hasn't exactly been rushing. )

Beer sounds good. And yes, although everyone just calls me Red. The Hood part is definitely a fictional add on.

Well, good luck. I'm not exactly sure how much luck you'll have and in a land with dragons I'm thinking the trial and error approach to discovering what'll get you stoned could only go badly. Or hilariously, but probably badly.

( teasing, but also seriously please don't go and smoke something magical, new friend. )

It-- it wasn't gradual. I mean, things started changing when Emma came to Storybrooke, but the Curse being broken was sudden. Really sudden. It was... Jarring, for sure.
