[ he calls at an hour fairly soon after the Gallows mess would have closed for the evening. his tone is polite, perfunctory. ]
This is not a social call, but rather one under the purview of Research. Would you mind describing, as best you are able, whatever you were doing shortly before you arrived in Thedas?
[ pause, shuffling of paper. ]
I am seeking to gather information about Rifters. As the Inquisition has stopped conducting formal interviews upon arrival, we do not have much documentation on the phenomenon for those of us who have arrived more recently. You are not obligated to answer, and are quite free to refuse.
Sure thing, boss. I don't mind at all, though I'd be interested in seeing the data you collect if you think it's appropriate.
Do you want to know if I remember what I was dreaming about, or what was going on where I was more generally before I fell asleep that night? Given that it's been over a year, the details of the dream itself aren't as crisp as I'd like, but I made a few notes a bit after I got here.
Yeah. I understand that's pretty common, though maybe not totally universal. I was having what I thought of at the time as just a random dream, and then there was the abrupt sensation of falling. A flash of green light, like what I now know as a rift. I did feel an impact when I hit the ground, awake. I had a few bruises, too, so at least some degree of falling was real, but from what I understand the Fade is kind of tricky about that kind of thing.
But yeah, no problem. It'd probably be even better if I'd been able to get my hands on parchment right away, it took a little bit at Skyhold before I figured out where to ask for it and reliably get some. But I wrote down some notes once I could.

You were sleeping? Dreaming?
[ after a moment: ]
Of course. I intend to.

[ small mercies. ]
Thank you. You have been quite helpful- I am glad of your good memory.
